Biography

After 40 years in academic clinical practice in GI and surgical oncology, Bass, Professor of Surgery, is now serving as the VP for Health Affairs at the George Washington University, Dean of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and CEO of the GW Medical Faculty Associates - the faculty practice organization of the GW academic medical enterprise. Bass has committed her career to improving the care of surgical patients through her contributions in discovery and clinical research, advancing structures and policy in surgical education and training, development of national initiatives to measure and improve surgical quality, and training the next generation of surgeons with a sense of inclusivity and equity. Her past leadership roles include service as the President of the American College of Surgeons, President of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Society of Surgical Chairs, and Chair of the American Board of Surgery among many others.
