Dr. Mittal is the Associate Director of Medical Education. He has been also the chief and program director of general surgery at Henry Ford Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. He was interim chair of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Mittal holds a clinical appointment as Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine and Michigan State University college of Human Medicine. He is also the chairman of the research, pt safety and QI committee. Dr. Mittal is a member of various surgical societies, and a founding member of the Transplant Society of India. Dr. Mittal’s scholarly activities include greater than 268 published articles in peer review journals, more than 425 paper presentations, video presentations, multiple visiting professorships and 36 book chapters. Dr. Mittal is the Editor-in-Chief of “Comprehensive Textbook of Surgery” He was awarded a Fulbright Distinguished Scholarship in teaching and research by the Fulbright Commission. Dr. Mittal delivered Panchanan Chatterjee oration in 2010. He delivered the fifth transplant oration at PGI Chandigarh in 2014. Recently in 2019, he has been honored with an honorary fellowship of Surgeons of India at their annual meeting. In 2022, He was awarded the” Fulbright-Nehru Distinguished Chair in Surgery” by US State Dept and Govt. Of India. He delivered the “3rd Prof. B L Talwar Oration” at the Foundation Day at PGI Chandigarh in August 2023.. Recently, Dr. Mittal has been honored with fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow (FRCS Glasgow). Dr. Mittal has been the president of the Detroit Surgical Association, Academy of Surgery of Detroit, President International College of Surgeon’s U-S section And American College of Surgeons-Michigan Chapter. In 2019, he was elected as governor of American College of Surgeons. He is a surgical educator and is interested in global surgical education.
