Biography

Nicolás A. Droppelmann, MD, MBA, FACS, was born in Santiago, Chile. He completed his General Surgery residency at Universidad de los Andes, Chile, in 2008, followed by a Surgical Oncology fellowship at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 2010. In 2015, he completed a Research Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He also earned an MBA from the ESE Business School at Universidad de los Andes, Chile. Between 2010 and 2020, Dr. Droppelmann served as Assistant Professor and member of the Surgical Oncology team at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. During this period, he also held leadership positions at Clínica UC San Carlos de Apoquindo, serving as Chief of the Emergency Department and later as Chief of the Oncology Service. Since 2020, Dr. Droppelmann has been part of Clínica Universidad de los Andes in Santiago, Chile, where he currently serves as Chief of the Department of Surgery. He remains actively involved in clinical practice, academic activities, and surgical leadership. His clinical and academic interests include melanoma, head and neck surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and breast surgery. Dr. Droppelmann is currently Vice President of the Society of Surgeons of Chile. He is also an active member of several national and international surgical organizations, including the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the Mastology Society of Chile, and the Head and Neck Society of Chile. Throughout his career, Dr. Droppelmann has authored and coauthored numerous peer reviewed national and international publications and has collaborated in academic book chapters and educational initiatives in surgical oncology.
