2008 International Volunteer Award: Bradley D. Wong

Bradley D. Wong, MD, FACS, of Honolulu, HI, was awarded the 2008 Surgical Volunteerism Award for international outreach in recognition of his participation in numerous medical missions to such countries as the Philippines, Viet Nam, China, American Samoa, and Nepal. Dr. Wong first engaged in volunteerism in medical school in Philadelphia, PA, at an outreach clinic in Philadelphia’s Chinatown. In 1988, he began participating with the Honolulu-based Aloha Medical Mission and has regularly held a leadership role in organizing and executing annual missions. He has served on the board of directors of Aloha Medical Mission and helped the organization expand its services and acquire a clinic to provide care locally in Honolulu. In addition to these extensive duties, he also engages local residents and physicians as volunteers. By immersing himself in all aspects of these missions, from patient care to educating local professionals and collecting needed supplies, Dr. Wong demonstrates his strong and ongoing commitment to international surgical care.
