American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Fox Chase Cancer Center

Fox Chase Cancer Center is a 100 bed NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Program that has been providing quality cancer care to patients since 1904. Fox Chase Cancer Center has been accredited by the Commission on Cancer since 1931. Fox Chase Cancer Center, now part of Temple Health, was formed in 1974 by the union of American Oncologic Hospital (one the nation's first cancer hospitals, established in 1904) & the Institute for Cancer Research (founded in 1927). It joined Temple Health in July, 2012. Also in 1974, Fox Chase was among the first institutions to be designated a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. Fox Chase Cancer Center is one of only 40 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country. This NCI designation supports research, training, health information dissemination and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients. Fox Chase's five CORE research programs range from understanding the fundamental mechanisms of biomolecular reactions in our Cancer Biology and Immune Cell and Host Defense programs, therapy development in our Developmental Therapeutics program to disease management in our Cancer Prevention and Control program. These programs are made possible by our world-renowned researchers and the support of the NCI and donors. Fox Chase physicians & researchers are frequently involved in setting new guidelines for breakthrough medicine & comprehensive care. In September 2000, the Hospital of Fox Chase Cancer Center became the nation's first comprehensive cancer center and Pennsylvania's first hospital to receive Magnet status for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, which renewed this honor in 2004 and again in 2009, making it the first hospital in Pennsylvania to have achieved two successful Magnet renewals. Our advanced technologies include precise image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) & Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) using Trilogy as well as minimally-invasive choices such as robotic surgery with da Vinci. In addition to treatment, we believe in providing cancer education, research & prevention, and treatments not yet available elsewhere. Our goal is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and to eventually prevent it. As one of the few hospitals in the country devoted entirely to cancer care, adhering to this philosophy is extremely important to our success. With direct access to our team of expert medical, surgical and radiation oncologists, our patients are given the best treatment options. This team collaborates on each case to provide personal, tailored care throughout the treatment process. Fox Chase is a cancer treatment center, which means our doctors and nurses not only specialize in cancer; they are experts in particular types of cancer. Your healthcare team's expertise will match the type of cancer you have. Our board-certified doctors treat more cases of rare and common cancers than other hospitals. More experience is linked to better outcomes. No matter what your diagnosis, you can expect experienced care at Fox Chase In addition to our specialists in medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology, you will be cared for by our staff of highly-qualified oncology nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, pathologists and radiologists. This coordinated approach to treatment best meets the needs of each patient. Our staff's expertise, combined with the advanced technology and services available at the Center, provide our patients with the highest quality care.
