Fellowships

International Opportunity Fund (Dr. Pon Fund)

The International Chapters & Surgical Organizations Scholarships offer 2-year faculty research fellowships to support international surgeons in advancing surgical education and research. These awards are made possible through the generosity of ACS Fellows, Chapters, and friends of the College, and aim to foster global collaboration and innovation in surgery.

Highlights

  • Either a single grant in an amount of up to $25,000 or two grants in an amount up to $12,500 funded through ACS Fellows, Chapters, and supporters
  • Designed to support international surgical education and collaboration

Eligibility
  • Must be a surgeon from a country outside the US and Canada
  • Must be affiliated with an ACS International Chapter or recognized surgical organization
  • Preference will be given to low-resource countries as defined by the World Bank.
  • Preference will be given to proposals from chapters and other eligible institutions (as defined above in paragraph 2) that demonstrate additional funds from other sources.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to surgical education, research, and international collaboration
  • Specific age or experience criteria not listed — may vary by fellowship
Location
  • Applicants must be based internationally
  • Fellowship activities may involve travel to the U.S. or collaboration with ACS-affiliated institutions
Application Requirements
  • Completed application form (details typically provided by ACS or sponsoring chapter)
  • CV and statement of research goals
  • Letters of recommendation (number and source may vary)
  • All materials must be submitted in English
Award Obligations
  • Participation in the designated research or educational activities
  • Submission of progress reports and/or final report detailing outcomes
  • Acknowledgment of ACS support in any resulting publications or presentations
