Scholarships

ACS/ASBrS International Scholarship

The ACS/ASBrS International Scholarship supports surgeons outside the US and Canada who are dedicated to improving breast cancer surgical services. Scholars receive $5,000 to attend the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) Annual Meeting and visit the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) to gain insights into high-quality, multidisciplinary breast cancer care.

Highlights:

  • $5,000 scholarship for international breast cancer surgeons
  • Attend the ASBrS Annual Meeting and one postgraduate course
  • Visit the NAPBC headquarters to learn about multidisciplinary breast cancer care

Eligibility Criteria
  • Graduate of a school of medicine
  • Completed surgical training and currently practicing as an attending surgeon
  • Member in good standing of both ACS (Associate Fellow or Fellow) and ASBrS (Active or Associate Member)
  • Between 30 and 50 years old at time of application
  • Minimum of 1 year in surgical practice, teaching, or research at permanent institution
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality breast cancer surgery, surgical teaching, and improving access to care
  • Preference given to applicants from developing nations and those without prior North American training or fellowships
  • Must be proficient in English
Location
  • Applicants must be based outside the US and Canada
  • Activities take place in the US, including Seattle for the 2026 ASBrS Annual Meeting and Chicago for the NAPBC visit
Application Requirements
  • Fully completed application form (available on ACS website)
  • Statement of objectives and proposed educational focus
  • Three letters of recommendation, including one from:
    • Department chair or
    • ACS Fellow in the applicant’s country
  • Other two letters should address clinical, surgical, and teaching abilities
  • Letters must be independently prepared and submitted directly by the recommenders
  • Submission of CV alone is not acceptable
  • All materials must be submitted in English

  • 1” margins
Award Obligations
  • Must use the award in the designated year (no deferrals)
  • Submit a written report after returning home, focusing on the value of the experience and its impact on breast cancer care in the applicant’s country
  • Hotel and travel expenses are the responsibility of the awardee and funded from the scholarship
  • Unsuccessful applicants may reapply only twice, with a new application and updated materials
