QVP Expands Internationally with First Verified Hospitals in Canada and Saudi Arabia

The ACS Quality Verification Program (QVP) has reached two important international milestones, with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre becoming the first QVP-verified hospital in Canada and King Abdulaziz Hospital–Al Ahsa becoming the first in Saudi Arabia.

At King Abdulaziz Hospital, QVP has helped strengthen the systems used to measure, review, and improve surgical quality. According to Surgical Quality Officer Dr. Wael Abdel Gawad, the hospital has reported 95% compliance with delirium screening, 98% completion of standardized credentialing, privileging, and focused professional practice evaluation for newly appointed surgeons, and 95% compliance with specialty-specific peer review and disease-based case review processes.

The hospital also monitors the timeliness and completion of multidisciplinary case reviews and morbidity and mortality conferences, surgical quality indicator dashboards and action plans, and the implementation and closure of quality improvement projects resulting from case reviews. Together, these efforts have supported stronger multidisciplinary collaboration, more standardized clinical pathways, enhanced peer review and documentation, and a more structured, data-driven approach to continuous quality improvement.
