CSSP Announces New Vice Chair

August 3, 2023

Tina J. Hieken, MD, FACS, will serve as the new Vice-Chair of the Cancer Surgery Standards Program (CSSP) with a term start date of October 2023. Dr. Hieken is professor of surgery, Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, and medical director of Quality & Accreditation, Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Hieken has served as Chair of the CSSP Surgical Information Transformation Committee (previously the Content Development Committee) since 2020, and has overseen the development and publication of the CSSP cancer surgery protocols.

The CSSP leadership team expresses deep appreciation to Kelly K. Hunt, MD, FACS, for her leadership as CSSP Vice-Chair since its inception in 2020. Dr. Hunt brought her knowledge of the ACS Cancer Programs and clinical expertise to the role of Vice-Chair after serving as the Program Director for the Cancer Research Program for 8 years. Dr. Hunt was instrumental in the formation of the CSSP mission and goals, implementation of the Commission on Cancer (CoC) Operative Standards, and development of the CSSP cancer surgery protocols.
