Help Your Patients Quit Smoking with Evidence-Based Tool from the ACS

May 4, 2023

Quit Smoking Before Your Operation, part of the ACS Informed Surgical Prep series of patient education materials, can help your patients achieve their smoking cessation goals. The materials, which can be accessed online or purchased in packs of 25, include an overview of cessation benefits, a plan for “quit day” preparation, tips for dealing with withdrawal,  and a listing of helpful resources. An individualized quit plan is included, which supports the coding requirements for reimbursement (Current Procedural Terminology (CPT)® 99406, 99407). For more information, contact the ACS Patient Education team at SurgicalPatientEducation@facs.org.

As part of the CoC pre-review process, additional documentation is occasionally requested by the site reviewer after the Pre-Review Questionnaire (PRQ) has closed 60 days before the scheduled site visit. The PRQ will re-open on the day of the site visit and remain open for 3 business days following the visit.
