Cancer Surgery Standards Program

Brief Video on CoC Standards 5.3 and 5.4 Now Available

April 27, 2023

The Cancer Surgery Standards Program Education Committee has developed a brief video summarizing the requirements and best practices for compliance with CoC Standard 5.3: Sentinel Node Biopsy for Breast Cancer and Standard 5.4: Axillary Lymph Node Dissection for Breast Cancer. This video reviews the requirements of standards 5.3 and 5.4 as well as strategies to optimize compliance. We recommend that all Cancer Liaison Physicians and State Chairs distribute this video to surgeons at their CoC-accredited cancer programs, and encourage program staff to show the video during tumor boards. This resource has been added to the Operative Standards Toolkit under each standard.
