American Cancer Society Update and Resources

April 18, 2024

  • Voices of Black Women: This long-term study led by the American Cancer Society Population Science team aims to enroll at least 100,000 Black women in the US over the next few years. The goal of this study is to better understand health conditions like cancer and how to improve overall health among Black women. Enrollment in 20 states begins in May.
  • Medicare Webinar: The American Cancer Society National Navigation Roundtable has posted the recording of its spring webinar regarding how the new Medicare coverage for principal illness navigation (as well as community health integration and SDOH risk assessment) may impose an out-of-pocket cost on patients. 
  • Symptom Management Flyer Series: The American Cancer Society offers cancer information in other languages, including new resources in the “What to Do For” series, translated into FrenchKoreanRussianSpanish, and Ukrainian. Topics include:
    • Diarrhea
    • Distress
    • Low blood counts
    • Memory, thinking, and focus changes
    • Sleep problems
  • Lung Cancer Webinar Series: The American Cancer Society National Lung Cancer Roundtable has launched a monthly webinar series that highlights lung cancer topics across the care and control continuum and incorporates voices from individuals living with lung cancer and the patient advocate community. Registration is now open for the April 26 webinar, “Population vs Individual Risk Assessment for Lung Cancer Screening Eligibility.” The recording of the March webinar, “Lung Cancer Screening for All Who Are Eligible: An Implementation Science Approach,” can be viewed on the American Cancer Society website. Final dates for the summer and fall webinars will be announced shortly.
