National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

NAPBC Launches New Standards

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) announces the official launch of its 2024 accreditation standards, Optimal Resources for Breast Care (2024 Standards).

On February 22, the official standards were released for download on the NAPBC website. Additional revisions and clarifications have been made since the early-access preview, released last November.

Resources and information supporting the official launch of Optimal Resources for Breast Care (2024 Standards) are also available on the website, including:

  • Implementation and compliance timelines
  • Information on future site visits
  • 2024 standards crosswalk, offering a high-level overview of the compliance requirements
  • Changelog documenting standards revisions since the early access preview, released November 2022
  • Introductory webinar providing an overview of the 2024 standards

With an overarching goal of improving quality outcomes and patient care, Optimal Resources for Breast Care (2024 Standards) features extensive revisions focused on the patient care journey from screening to diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. Feedback on the new standards was collected from currently accredited NAPBC programs during a public comment review in early 2022, and further revisions were implemented to streamline compliance requirements as NAPBC continues to raise the bar for multidisciplinary cancer care.

All NAPBC-accredited programs are required to come into compliance with Optimal Resources for Breast Care (2024 Standards) by January 1, 2024.

The NAPBC will continue to educate breast centers and healthcare professionals on Optimal Resources for Breast Care throughout the 2023 calendar year. Concurrently, a select group of volunteer pilot sites are preparing to undergo accreditation site visits under the new standards to provide practical insights on the updated compliance measures prior to the official compliance date.

The NAPBC is grateful to everyone who has contributed to the standards revision project during the past two years, including the NAPBC board members, Standards and Accreditation Committee members, accreditation staff, and the NAPBC-accredited programs who participated in the public comment review.
