The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has announced the National Surgeon Scientist Program, which provides competitive funding opportunities for faculty members within their first one to five years of appointment, and whose research focus is on a cancer‐related disease and is basic or translational science research. The deadline to apply is June 15, 2021.

The purpose of this initial funding is to create a pilot developmental program for surgeon-scientists that ultimately will develop into a broader and more comprehensive program. The future program will provide a cohort of academic surgeons with structured mentorship and professional development to increase the pipeline of successful, independent surgeon investigators. Consideration will be given to individuals who are in a strong academic research environment with documented departmental research support and whose projects are exceptionally innovative.

Read more about the program, including full application requirements and access to the application, on the ACS website. For additional information or questions, contact scholarships@facs.org.
