National Safety Council (NSC) Distinguished Service to Safety Award

Peter A. Burke, MD, FACS, received the NSC Distinguished Service to Safety Award for his career spent caring for injured patients at Boston Medical Center in Massachusetts—an important safety net hospital. 

According to Jeffrey D. Kerby, MD, PhD, FACS, chair of the COT, “He has always been a staunch advocate for injured patients and emphasized the critical importance of applying a public health approach to the field of injury prevention. Dr. Burke has always made it a priority to help the most disadvantaged persons in our society gain access to healthcare and have their voices heard.”

Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) International Meritorious Service Award

George Abi Saad, MD, FACS, a trauma surgeon in Lebanon, received the ATLS International Meritorious Service Award for his recent work promulgating ATLS and STOP THE BLEED programs and principles in Turkey, Palestine, and Ethiopia.

ATLS Educator of the Year Award

Deborah Paltridge, BAppSci(Physio), MHlthSci, an emergency medicine physician in Australia, received the ATLS Educator of the Year Award for her crucial role in development of the current ATLS 10th edition and currently shepherding of Senior Educator Advisory Board through redevelopment of the ATLS 11th edition Instructor Course.
