Gabriel Brat and Jayson Marwaha, who discuss their recent study that compared the predictive utility of preoperative surgeon intuition and surgical risk calculators. The authors found that, while preoperative surgeon intuition alone is an independent predictor of patient outcomes, traditional risk calculators are more robust predictors of postoperative complication.
