Surgeons Discuss Caregiving, Trauma Model of Well-Being in Final Installment of Surgeon Well-Being Month Content

Well-being is critical for the health, sustainability, and success of surgeons, care teams, and health systems. The ACS has celebrated your well-being and participation in ACS Surgeon Well-Being Month throughout January, providing the audio and video resources available from the Surgeon Well-Being Program.

In this final week of Surgeon Well-Being Month, check out two popular resources from past years, and carry the lessons learned here and in past weeks throughout 2023.

Surgeons As Caregivers: The Triple Threat

Surgeons share their experience of navigating their surgical career, well-being, and being a present caregiver. In exploring boundaries, compassion, empathy, the influence of being a surgeon caregiver, career trajectory, and more, Melissa Red Hoffman, MD, FACS, and Rohan Jerayajah, MD, FACS, share their experiences and perspectives as surgeons and caregivers.

Reframing Surgeon Well-Being: How the Trauma Model Informs Approaches to Well-Being Solutions at Systemic Levels

A panel of experts discusses applying the trauma model for surgeon well-being and address various issues, factors, and drivers at all levels of well-being at an organization. Panelists will also discuss the cultural and environmental change needed to prioritize well-being, highlight new perspectives to destigmatize the concept for surgeons, and share experiences of engaging leadership to prioritize surgeon well-being.
