Register for March Surgeons and Engineers Meeting, Surgical Simulation Summit

February 27, 2024

Next month, the ACS will host two specialized and important meetings on the intersection of surgeons, technology, and education.

On Wednesday, March 13, the ACS will hold the annual Surgeons and Engineers: A Dialogue on Surgical Simulation Meeting at the ACS Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.

The objective of this meeting is to provide a novel forum for the exchange of challenges and potentially applicable technologies among surgeons, surgical educators, engineers, and scientists. Surgeons and surgical educators will present needs and challenges encountered in their delivery of surgical education. Academic and industry engineers and scientists will have the opportunity to present existing technologies—or those in development—that have the potential to be applied to and successfully address the presented challenges.

Contact Gyusung Lee, PhD, for more information regarding this meeting at glee@facs.org or 312-202-5782.

Following Surgeons and Engineers, the ACS will host the 17th Annual Surgical Simulation Summit on Thursday, March 14, and Friday, March 15 at the Swissôtel in Chicago. A dynamic program awaits attendees with access to innovative technologies, discussion of ground-breaking simulation research, and unparalleled networking opportunities with leaders in the field.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Eric Elster, MD, FACS, CAPT, MC, USN (Ret.), who will discuss “From Simulation to Battlefield Medicine: The Power of Measurement to Improve Performance and Clinical Outcomes.” Dr. Elster is dean of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland, and Executive Co-Chair of the Military Health System Strategic Partnership American College of Surgeons.

The Management, Operations, Research and Education (MORE) Track will be offered concurrently with the paper sessions, allowing attendees to choose whichever sessions are more relevant to them. The summit will also bring back the collaborative session with the American Society of Anesthesiologists that explores how to use simulation to address quality improvement at institutions.
