Which Mesh Is Superior in Ventral Hernia Repair?

August 19, 2025

Despite their ubiquity, long-term follow-up outcomes for ventral hernia repairs with meshes have been unavailable. To address this knowledge gap, authors of the recent Journal of the American College of Surgeons (JACS) article, “Comparative Long-Term Performance of Biologic, Synthetic, and Long-Acting Resorbable Meshes in Ventral Hernia Repair” used a population survival kinetics approach to find the optimal mesh. Dr. Abdulaziz Elemosho discusses the findings. A free subscription to JACS is an ACS membership benefit.
