As surgeons wind down their practices or transition to retirement, they often consider working at least part-time in some volunteer surgical capacity both domestically and internationally. The ACS is hosting a 1-hour webinar, 1:00–2:00 pm CT on May 5, on how retired surgeons can find ongoing purpose through global surgery volunteerism.
This webinar, sponsored and coordinated by the ACS Senior Fellows Society (SFS) and moderated by SFS Chair Tyler Hughes, MD, FACS, will feature a knowledgeable panel:
This panel will discuss how to find a responsible organization with which to work, the ethics of volunteer surgery, practical aspects of travel and security, the types of work needed, and the rewards and pitfalls of such work. The format will be interactive with opportunities to ask your questions of these experts and profound humanitarians.
All surgeons interested in performing global surgery as part of their professional goals will benefit from this webinar. This webinar will be recorded and posted on the SFS web page.
The SFS offers senior surgeons the opportunity to engage with each other and share their knowledge and experience with younger surgeons. Learn more about the SFS.
