Surgeons who want to incorporate oncoplastic breast surgical techniques into their practice are encouraged to register for the next Fundamentals of Oncoplastic Breast Surgery course. In this hands-on course, surgeons will be exposed to basic oncoplastic techniques that they can perform and more complex techniques that require a team approach with a plastic surgeon.

This is a hybrid course with recorded didactic lectures viewable prior to attendance at the hands-on skills lab. The skills lab takes place Friday, May 23, at the University of California, Los Angeles Center for Advanced Surgical Interventional Technology.

The course chair is Nimmi S. Kapoor, MD, FACS, breast surgical oncologist and an associate professor of surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

Course participants will:

  • Hear the basics of measurement and marking for cosmetic outcomes
  • Perform a parallelogram mastopexy
  • Perform a crescent excision around the nipple-areola complex
  • Perform a round block technique to reach any quadrant of the breast and multiple lesions through a single scar
  • Perform a donut mastopexy to reach any quadrant of the breast
