Precision in Stroke Care: A Novel Model for Predicting Functional Independence in Urgent Carotid Intervention Patients

By integrating stroke severity, frailty risk, time to intervention, and thrombolysis use, this model predicts functional independence after urgent carotid interventions in stroke patients. It enhances clinical decisions and may improve patient care in acute stroke management.

Burnout and Its Consequences among Vascular Surgeons and Trainees: A Danish National Survey

With an 82% response rate, this survey of vascular surgeons and trainees found that burnout is associated with a lack of meaning at work, low workplace commitment, challenging work-life balance, intention to leave the specialty, increased prevalence of depressive symptoms, and frequent use of pain medication.

Heart Transplantation in Patients Less Than 18 Years of Age: Comparison of 2 Eras Over 36 Years and 323 Transplants at a Single Institution

This single-institution analysis of 311 patients <18 years of age who underwent 323 heart transplants (1986-2022) revealed a 1-year survival rate of 90.3% and a 5-year survival of 83.0% in patients undergoing transplantation in the most recent era (2011–2022). These patients are higher risk but have better survival.

Role of Endovascular Stenting in Patients with Traumatic Iliac Artery Injury

Operative iliac artery injury is associated with significant morbidity and mortality for both blunt and penetrating injury patterns. This study found that endovascular repair was used much more frequently in blunt than penetrating injury. For blunt iliac artery injury, endovascular repair was the only modifiable risk factor for mortality reduction.

Effects of Patient Sex on Neurocognitive Decline after Cardiac Surgery

This study found that cute neurocognitive decline after cardiac surgery was more common and more severe in female patients. This appears to be partially mediated by preoperative hematocrit. The difference between male and female patients resolves by 1 month after surgery.

Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Inferior Vena Cava in Trauma: A Single-Center Case Series

The authors present a single-center case series of 5 patients in whom endovascular balloon occlusion of the IVC was employed for hemorrhage control and found that endovascular balloon occlusion is a valuable adjunct in management of IVC injury and shows the potential of hybrid open-endovascular operative techniques in abdominal vascular trauma.
