Volunteer Spotlight: Michael A. McGrail, CHSOS

Michael A. McGrail, CHSOS, is a simulation specialist at The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City. A collaborative and passionate professional, Michael has gone above and beyond to help equip the surgical simulation lab at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia, with the tools and resources needed to function effectively. He is a strong advocate for simulation-based education and a supportive partner who consistently invests in the success of others. Michael has made a deliberate effort to deepen The University of Oklahoma’s engagement with the ACS H.O.P.E. Program by recruiting new surgeon volunteers and traveling multiple times to ensure simulation lab functionality. His enthusiastic dedication to the collaboration has brought in many new resources and made a lasting, meaningful impact.

Partner Spotlight: Zersenay Gebremeskel, MD

Zersenay Gebremeskel, MD, is an assistant professor of surgery and director of the General Surgery Residency Program at Hawassa University in Ethiopia. A thoughtful and inclusive partner, Dr. Zersenay is deeply committed to high-quality research and surgical education. He is a passionate teacher and a vital leader within the Hawassa Surgical Training Collaborative, consistently demonstrating reliability, dedication, and a strong commitment to patient care. Dr. Zersenay is especially driven to advance his institution’s research output and strengthen the quality of resident and surgeon education. He played an instrumental role in the success of the Surgeons as Educators workshop in September 2025, exemplifying his leadership and collaborative spirit.
