The program will be tailored to the Junior Associate's interests and skill level with experience at Good Samaritan Hospital and Franklin Square Hospital.
The Mastery in General Surgery Program is designed to help hone and improve upon the skills obtained in a general surgery residency program. We seek to help the Junior Associate:
A crafted experience will be built based on the Junior Associate's self-inventory, training program feedback, and future goals. This will help guide the Associate towards cases and experiences that will provide the most benefit.
The Associate will be working with junior residents at Good Samaritan Hospital. They will also take call as a faculty member, with a Senior Associate as back up. At Franklin Square Hospital, the Associate will be working with the faculty on Fridays.
There will be a gradual shift to autonomy for the Junior Associate. The Associate will be responsible for their own surgical clinic under the guidance of the Senior Associate. Dr. David Stein will provide mentorship on contract negotiations throughout the year. Associates will be required to complete a QI project.
The Junior Associate will have monthly feedback sessions with their main Senior Associates. During these, they will be asked to complete a self-evaluation to monitor their own progress in the program. A semi-annual review will be held with the Associate and Dr. Arnold. This will then be used to make any adjustments to the curriculum as needed to help the Associate successfully complete the program. For the final assessment, Dr. Arnold will meet with the Associate to present the Final Assessment of the overall performance of the Junior Associate.
Available CME activities include Weekly Morbidity and Mortality Conference as well as Grand Rounds. Junior Associates are encouraged to participate in local, regional, or national conferences pertaining to their specific area of interest.
