Program Highlights

The year will include experience in outpatient clinics, comprehensive in-patient surgery and care, as well as intensive care. The Junior Associate will also have the opportunity to participate on hospital committees that deal in patient safety, quality care, and risk management. Assistance with contract negotiations will be provided by the Mastery in General Surgery Program Chief and Senior Associates. The Junior Associate will teach both residents and students.

Program Description

In addition to outpatient clinics, comprehensive in-patient surgery and care, intensive care, research participation will be available at the discretion of the Senior Associate but not required. All clinical activity will be at our Overton Brooks VA Hospital, but the weekly M and M Conference and other didactic experiences are at LSUHS Medical School. Call on a rotating basis will be every third or fourth night. The Junior Associate will be mentored not only in surgical care but also in pursuit of a permanent practice position. It is expected that the Junior Associate will mature insights into the type of practice desired as well as gain a realistic view of things like geographical limitations and interests. Some are expected to embrace positions in areas of evolving subspecialty interests morphing into fellowships. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available at this site.
