October 19, 2024
I am honored to welcome you to Clinical Congress 2024 in San Francisco (and virtually). Thank you for joining us at this important gathering of surgeons.
Clinical Congress is packed with sessions on innovations in surgery, research, education, and technology, as well as important opportunities to network, socialize with, and be inspired by mentors, future colleagues, and icons in the surgical field.
Uniting with other surgeons for learning, sharing, and camaraderie is essential to our professional well-being. Spending time together with colleagues in surgery will help us deliver better care when we return home to our clinical practices through meaningful human connections, important clinical insights, and renewed energy for our work.
Clinical Congress offers something for every surgeon. I want to especially welcome the medical students, surgical residents, and early career practicing surgeons in attendance this year. Clinical Congress can help fuel your career success, just as it does for surgeons across all career stages, career types, and surgical disciplines.
Together, we are the House of Surgery—and I am grateful to all of you who join us at Clinical Congress, where our unity makes each of us better, more skillful, and more committed to the patients we serve.
Join us tonight at 6:00 pm in Moscone Center West for Convocation, where we will proudly confer Fellowship on 1,894 new Initiates. During this ceremony, we also will present several important awards, grant Honorary Fellowship on eight surgeons from around the world, welcome our new ACS President, Beth H. Sutton, MD, FACS, and hear her Presidential Address.
I hope you will join us tomorrow at 8:00 am, also in Moscone Center West, for the Opening Ceremony. Dr. Sutton will preside, I will give the annual State of the ACS address, and the Martin Memorial Lecture, delivered by Lester Martinez-Lopez, MD, MPH, will follow at 9:00 am.
Please visit the Exhibit Hall Sunday through Tuesday to examine the latest equipment and devices, stop by the Career Fair and meet prospective employers, and learn about everything the College has to offer by engaging with staff at ACS Central. At ACS Central, take a moment to update your online profile; this will allow us to provide you with curated content throughout the year, ensuring you always receive offerings from the ACS that align with your surgical specialty, career stage, and interests. In addition, receive a free digital headshot that you can add to your online member profile from our onsite professional photographer.
You are welcome to attend the Annual Business Meeting of Members on Tuesday at 4:00 pm in Rooms 303-304 of Moscone Center South. You’ll hear reports from ACS leadership, presentation of several awards, and remarks from the newly installed President-Elect.
Following the Business Meeting will be Taste of the City, the annual social event that closes Clinical Congress. All attendees and their family members are invited to this complimentary celebration that begins at 5:30 pm. Food, drinks, entertainment, and camaraderie are planned. No advance registration is needed.
All Clinical Congress attendees are encouraged to wear casual dress all day on Tuesday.
The 4 short days of Clinical Congress offer a tremendous amount of content, so please note that on-demand session access is included with your registration and available through February 24, 2025. Many sessions will be available for on-demand viewing via the Clinical Congress app soon after the live presentations. Refer to the Program Pocket Guide, provided to you at registration, for a full list of sessions available on demand.
Once again, welcome to Clinical Congress 2024!
