Surgery is a science and art rich in historic developments, and learning about the past can offer context that allows surgeons to gain a better understanding of how earlier developments inform today’s practice.
This year’s History of Surgery Posters exhibit will feature 23 posters that explore developments of military surgery through animal research, evolution of Roux-en-Y anastomosis, telepresence robotic surgery, and more.
The posters are available for viewing 9:45 am–3:30 pm today and 9:00 am–3:30 pm on Monday and Tuesday in the Exhibit Hall (Hall A), and presenters will share their posters this morning when judging takes place. They were selected from a group of more than 250 abstract submissions and will participate in the History of Surgery Poster Competition. Six judges, each a member of the ACS History and Archives Committee, will evaluate the displayed posters and select the first- and second-place winners.
The winners will be announced tomorrow during the History of Surgery Community Breakfast at 7:00 am. Registration is not required to attend.
The authors of the two winning posters will be invited to write an in-depth article on their respective topics for a 2025 issue of the ACS Bulletin.
In addition, more than four dozen History of Surgery ePosters are available for online viewing through Tuesday via the online meeting platform or on viewing stations in Rooms 201–204 Level 2 South.
