The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Division of Education produces a diverse assortment of publications that have educational value for surgeons at all stages of their careers. The offerings include print publications, online offerings, multimedia education as well as a select list of videos from the ACS Video Library.
Publications that are offered in print and online with opportunities to earn continuing medical education credit include the Surgical Education and Assessment Program (SESAP) and Selected Readings in General Surgery (SRGS). Both of these have been in existence for more than 40 years and have proven reliability for surgeons who wish to maintain and document their life-long learning efforts. A unique, new offering is Evidence-Based Decisions in Surgery (EBDS). EBDS modules are designed to provide current recommendations for management of clinical problems that are likely to be encountered in general surgery practice. The modules are based on existing clinical practice guidelines and are designed to be used at the point of care. The modules can be viewed on any platform (i.e., desktop, tablet, smartphone) and are continually reviewed and updated.
Surgeons looking for visual aids will find the ACS Multimedia Atlas valuable; practitioners interested in topics pertinent to patient-centered care will benefit from the two publications that deal with ethical issues.
We encourage surgeons to examine and review the publications of the Division of Education.
