The ACS is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The ACS Division of Education is responsible for maintaining that accreditation status and oversees educational programs across the entire College to ensure that they are planned and executed in compliance with the ACCME Accreditation Criteria and the AMA Credit System Regulations.
In a typical year, the College offers approximately 2,000 CME activities and provides approximately 34,000 hours of instruction for almost 50,000 physicians. The CME activities are extremely diversified in content as well as type and include live courses throughout the world, e-learning activities, and enduring materials. A joint providership program for non-accredited organizations is available and is described under the CME Joint Providership Program.
