Mentoring Program

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) is seeking applications from women surgeons who would like to apply for the Mentorship Program for Women Surgeons. This is an opportunity for early career female surgeons (less than five years in practice) to develop a mentoring relationship with an established female Fellow of the College. Applications are due May 15.

The Program will include up to 25 mentor/mentee pairs who are required to attend the 2019 ACS Clinical Congress in San Francisco, CA. Applicants to the program must be either an ACS Fellow or Associate Fellows, or currently in the process of applying for ACS Fellowship. The mentorship relationship will extend from October 2019 through October 2020.

About the Mentee Application Process

Applicants in need of mentorship in one or more of the following areas should apply:

  • Career development
  • Research goals
  • Work-life balance
  • Practice development
  • Transition to practice
  • Leadership development

Mentee responsibilities include:

  • Participate in an introductory call with your mentor.
  • Attend the ACS Clinical Congress in San Francisco to meet your mentor at a lunch meeting planned for the Tuesday of the meeting.
  • Develop an action plan to cultivate one or more of the above areas and identify specific goals.
  • Commit to connecting with your mentor on a minimum quarterly basis.
  • Complete an evaluation form and submit a brief summary on your mentee experience at the conclusion of the program in October 2020.

How to Apply

The application will require:

  • Contact information and information on areas for mentoring
  • A brief personal statement outlining what the mentee is looking for in a mentor and what the mentee hopes to gain from participating in the program
  • Upload of an abbreviated CV (not more than 3 pages)

Applications must be submitted by May 15.

All applicants will be notified by June 30 regarding their participation in the program. We will do our best to match each applicant with an appropriate mentor but we cannot guarantee a perfect fit.
