The Surgical Research Committee (SRC) is a standing committee of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). It is concerned with and represents the organization in matters addressing the progress of academic surgery and the funding, content, and direction of surgical research, as it pertains to improving the care of patients. The committee also serves as the liaison to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with regards to issues of importance to surgical research and peer review.
The founding organizations of the Conjoint Council on Surgical Research, a body that existed in the 1980s to foster surgical research, nominated members that formed the SRC under the American College of Surgeons in 1989. The American Surgical Association, the Association for Academic Surgery, the Society of University Surgeons, and the Society for Surgical Chairs each appoints one member to the committee. The Canadian Association of Surgical Chairs also appoints a liaison member.
