The General Surgery Coding and Reimbursement Committee (GSCRC) represents and acts in the interests of general surgeons and their clinical practices regarding issues that impact coding, billing, and reimbursement for surgical care. The GSCRC focuses on activities of the American Medical Association/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) and the Current Procedural Terminology Editorial Panel (CPT), which are responsible for determining payment rates for health care services. In addition to RUC and CPT, the GSCRC also handles a variety of other payment policy issues including those related to the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and other regulations, private insurer issues, administrative burden reduction, and practice management topics.
