Committee for the Owen H. Wangensteen Scientific Forum

"The Forum on Fundamental Surgical Problems was instituted by the Board of Regents to provide an opportunity to the younger surgical group for the presentation of the results of original clinical and experimental research…. The Surgical Forum affords a large surgical audience the opportunity to become acquainted with the work of investigators through the medium of the concise presentation; at the same time, it accords a number of young, well trained surgeons their first opportunity of hearing before a national surgery organization.” —Owen H. Wangensteen, MD, FACS, February 1947

Committee for the Owen H. Wangensteen Scientific Forum Roster

About the Committee

The Committee for the Owen H. Wangensteen Scientific Forum provides a platform for scientific and surgical researchers across all levels of training and experience to present their original research work during the Owen H. Wangensteen Scientific Forum at Clinical Congress.

Committee members are responsible for reviewing abstracts and identifying other ad hoc reviewers to grade submissions in the categories for which they are responsible.  They also work with the Committee leadership to assign the appropriate number of selected abstracts to assigned Scientific Forum sessions at Clinical Congress.  Members recommend topics for Clinical Congress panel sessions and for the Seminal Works in Surgery session, in addition to selecting a senior surgeon-scientist for the annual Dedication of the Scientific Forum.

Overall, the Scientific Forum Committee is responsible for assembling sessions at Clinical Congress which highlight the importance of new research in the improvement of surgery for ACS members and non-members alike.
