Surgical Ergonomics Research Project

The ACS Division of Education is conducting a research project investigating the practical effects of various ergonomic interventions on surgeons’ ergonomics. After the ergonomics clinic, participants will receive four short follow-up surveys to share the following information:

  1. Which surgical ergonomic interventions they have implemented in their practice
  2. Whether they are still using such interventions
  3. Whether such implementation positively or negatively impacts their ergonomic symptoms.

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you meet the following requirements:

  1. Have completed your medical school training
  2. Are a practicing surgeon or surgical trainee who regularly performs or assists open, laparoscopic, or robotic surgery
  3. Plan to attend the ACS Surgical Ergonomics Clinic during Clinical Congress 2023 in Boston, MA
  4. Are highly interested in learning and actively implementing various surgical ergonomics interventions in your practice after the clinic
  5. Are willing to find someone as your “ergonomic buddy”
  6. Are willing to complete a few short follow-up surveys

If you are interested in participating in this ergonomic research study, please provide us with your email address on the registration form. If you have any questions regarding this study, please contact Gyusung Lee, PhD, Principal Investigator & Assistant Director, Simulation-Based Surgical Education and Training, ACS Division of Education, by email at glee@facs.org.
