National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) Meeting

The Emergency Medical Services for Children Innovation and Improvement Center (EIIC) leverages quality improvement science and multidisciplinary, multisystem collaboration to optimize outcomes for children across the emergency care continuum. The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) serves as a partner organization to the EIIC and works collaboratively with their Trauma Domain team to improve pediatric care within the Trauma space.

The EIIC plays a crucial role in supporting initiatives related to pediatric readiness, ensuring that healthcare providers and facilities are well-prepared to care for pediatric patients in emergency situations. One such initiative is the National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP), a multi-phase quality improvement initiative to ensure that all U.S. emergency departments have the essential guidelines and resources in place to provide effective emergency care to children.

On July 12-13, 2023, Dr. Scott G. Sagraves, MD, Vice Chair of the ACS COT's Verification, Review, and Consultation (VRC) Committee, attended a NPRP Strategy Meeting in Washington, D.C. on behalf of the ACS COT. This meeting brought together key organizations, including the ACS COT, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), to align organizational priorities, maximize collaborative resources, and discuss the future direction of NPRP initiative.
