ACS Cancer Programs Accreditation Content Use Permission Requirements

It is required that express written permission is received and/or a license agreement is executed before there is any use of American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) Cancer Accreditation copyrighted materials. This includes, but is not limited to, the following copyrighted publications and related materials/resources (e.g. templates, FAQs):
Optimal Resources for Breast Care (2024 Standards)
Optimal Resources for Cancer Care (2020 Standards)
Optional Resources for Rectal Cancer Care (2020 Standards)
National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers Standards Manual (2018 Edition)
Without limiting ACS’ rights, individuals from accredited programs or programs pursuing accreditation do not need to request permission for the following uses as long as it is for purposes of achieving or maintaining accreditation:
Downloading
Printing
Building internal electronic medical record tools to assist with standards compliance
Use in internal presentations and meetings
Permission is also not required for citation in academic publications.
Any other use, including the following, requires submission of the ACS Cancer Programs Content Use Request form:
Distribution, resell, or reproduction (either the entire resource/manual or in part)
Creation of revenue-generating content by an entity other than the ACS
Permissions Request Fee In most cases, payment of a fee will be required before permission is granted. The fee assessed for approved permission requests will be determined based on the requested use and will typically range from $250-$500. If the request for permission is denied, no fee will be assessed.
License Agreement Fees If a license agreement is required, required payments will be discussed during the licensing process.
Once reviewed by ACS Staff, information on next steps and, if applicable, an overview of required fees will be provided. Please allow at least 10 business days for an update.
Limitations of Use Language
All rights are reserved related to these publications and materials, whether the whole or the part of the materials is concerned. Without limiting the above, the content of these publications and related materials may be cited in academic publications as well as downloaded and printed for individual use. Express written permission is required before any other use. This includes, but is not limited to, distribution, resell, reproduction in whole or in part, and/or creating revenue-generating content by an entity other than the American College of Surgeons. This also includes copying, distributing, posting, displaying, publishing, modifying, or embedding in or used as part of a presentation, publication, or technology or software solution.
