The purpose of the Society of Surgical Chairs (SSC) Women's Committee is to advance the leadership and impact of women in academic surgery. The SSC Women's Committee is composed of women chairs of surgery in the U.S. and Canada and is committed to advancing professional development and success of women in academic surgery and enriching diversity and achieving gender equity as leaders in surgery.
On Wednesday, April 6, 2022 the SSC Women’s Committee held a day long leadership retreat and reception at the American College of Surgeons Headquarters supported by the Departments of Surgery at Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, Loyola University Medical Center, Rush University Medical Center, and the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine.
On Wednesday April 10, 2019, the SSC Women’s Committee held a day-long leadership roundtable, “Not a Moment in Time”, supported by the UTSW department of surgery and the ACS Foundation, at the UTSW Medical Center, Dallas, TX.
On Wednesday April 18, 2018, the SSC Women's Committee held a day-long leadership event, "Managing Up, Down and Sideways," supported by WLI ETHICON, at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, AZ.
On Wednesday April 19, 2017, at the Union League of Philadelphia the SSC Women's Committee held a day-long leadership symposium—supported by WLI ETHICON and the ACS Foundation—for 40 women surgeons.
