American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

CMS MIPS 2019 and ABS Case Log Transfer

Dear SSR Participant,

This is a reminder that the American College of Surgeons Surgeon Specific Registry™ (ACS SSR) allows you the option to participate in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) for the 2019 performance year. You can still sign up for MIPS 2019 using the SSR. The deadline for approving your MIPS 2019 data submission is Friday, January 3, 2020.

Even if you have already signed up, please take time to verify your MIPS 2019 “Final Eligibility” now (in the month of November 2019) using the CMS Quality Payment Program (QPP) Check Participation Status tool.

Enter your individual National Provider Identifier (NPI) into the tool to look up your MIPS eligibility and participation status by performance year. If you are eligible for MIPS 2019 and want to submit your data through the SSR, begin by following the steps in the SSR MIPS 2019 Quick Guide found in Section 1. For more in-depth instructional resources, visit the ACS SSR’s MIPS 2019 Educational Instructions and Resources page.

Submitting MIPS 2019 data to CMS will allow you to potentially either avoid a negative payment adjustment or earn a positive payment adjustment in calendar year 2021. The SSR is supporting the Quality and Improvement Activities performance categories of MIPS 2019, and submitting MIPS data through the SSR is considered individual and registry-based reporting by CMS. Visit our SSR website for more information about MIPS 2019 participation, including requirements, specifications, and instructional resources.

Additionally, the SSR helps fulfill American Board of Surgery (ABS) Continuous Certification requirements. As part of its Continuous Certification program, the ABS requires ongoing participation in a practice improvement activity—a local, regional, or national outcomes registry or quality assessment program. In addition, the ABS requires the submission of a 12-month operative log at least every 10 years, which can also be done through electronic transfer from the SSR. Review our instructional resource on the SSR Operative Log Transfer to the ABS.
