American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Reaccreditation Process

If you are a recertifying center, you will receive an e-mail late August the year before your survey is due, with further instructions on starting the recertification process.

The reaccreditation survey will assess breast center activity from the last complete year (most current 12-month period). In preparation for survey, the breast program leader (BPL) should review the current NAPBC Standards Manual—and the last performance report and resolved deficiencies from the prior survey. This is available to you in PDF format in your NAPBC Center Portal. For additional resources, you may also refer to the Center Resources section when logging into your center portal.

NAPBC Fee Structure and Timetable

Annual Accreditation Fee (effective for surveys scheduled after January 1, 2016)
NAPBC accreditation requires survey application record updates and an onsite visit every three years.
*An invoice will be generated approximately 90 days prior to your accreditation anniversary date (for re-accrediting programs) or your survey date (for new programs). Payment of the fee is due within 30 days of receipt of invoice.

Annual Satellite Accreditation Fee (effective January 1, 2016)
On the application page you will be asked to identify any centers associated with your main breast center that you wish to be included on your accreditation record. In order to qualify as a satellite, these centers must meet the following criteria:

  1. Shared leadership with main center
  2. Shared interdisciplinary breast cancer conference
  3. Shared medical records (electronic or paper)
  4. Must see patients at this center

If your center is affiliated with a Commission on Cancer (CoC)-accredited program, you can find additional information on how to be considered for CoC/NAPBC Collaboration Surveys.

Please note. CoC/NAPBC Collaboration Survey requests are due by September 30 of the year prior to survey. CoC Network and VA facilities will not be considered.

Survey extensions or postponements are discouraged. Please refer to the NAPBC Standards Manual for survey extensions and postponement policy.
