Dr. Sarah M. Friedewald is the division chief of breast and women’s imaging and medical director of the Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL.

Dr. Friedewald received her MD from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. After a surgical internship, she attended the diagnostic radiology residency program at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. She subsequently completed a fellowship in women’s imaging at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Friedewald is actively involved in multicenter trials evaluating the performance of tomosynthesis. She teaches the FDA-required training course in tomosynthesis both nationally and internationally. Additionally, Dr. Friedewald is a clinical image reviewer for the American College of Radiology’s Breast Ultrasound Accreditation Program.

Dr. Friedewald is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Women Radiologists, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Chicago Radiological Society, and the Illinois Radiological Society. She also contributes to several committees for the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Commission on Breast Imaging and serves as the ACR Representative for the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer. Additionally, Dr. Friedewald is a member of the Scientific Program Committee for the Radiological Society of North America and a Screening Leadership Member for the Society of Breast Imaging.
