Qualified Clinical Data Registry and Physician Quality Reporting System Reporting in 2014

MBSAQIP Data Registry self-nominated to CMS as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry

On March 31, 2014, the MBSAQIP submitted detailed specifications for proposed quality measures to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for possible inclusion in the 2014 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) reporting mechanism. If approved, MBSAQIP participants (U.S. surgeons who accept Medicare and have valid NPIs) will have an opportunity to voluntarily elect that their QCDR quality measures results be submitted to CMS for likely 2014 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) credit.

  • A Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) is a CMS-approved entity that has self-nominated and successfully completed a qualification process that collects clinical data for the purpose of patient and disease tracking to foster improvement in the quality of care provided to patients. In 2014, CMS allows QCDRs flexibility to define the quality measures participating physicians would choose to report to CMS
  • The Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) provides an incentive payment through 2014 to individual physicians and group practices who satisfactorily report data on quality measures. Beginning in 2015, a downward payment adjustment will apply to physicians who do not satisfactorily report data on quality measures and the incentive payments will be replaced with penalties

Specifications of the proposed quality measures submitted to CMS are available.

More information will be posted after we hear back from CMS. If you have any questions please contact mbsaqip@facs.org
