The 200th site visit of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) was conducted on Monday, June 1, at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. The site visit was performed by MBSAQIP Surveyor Samer Mattar, MD, FACS. Dr. Mattar is a practicing bariatric surgeon from Portland, OR, who has volunteered as a surveyor for more than 5 years, and serves on the MBSAQIP Verification Subcommittee. Cedars Sinai was originally accredited in 2012 and is under the direction of Scott Cunneen, MD, FACS, also a long-time surveyor. Mona Misra, MD, FACS, a practicing surgeon at Cedars Sinai also serves as a MBSAQIP Surveyor.

The MBSAQIP’s first site visit took place on September 25, 2014, and the program has conducted more than 200 visits in the last eight months, at an unprecedented rate of more than one site visit per day. Thank you to all of our centers and surveyors for their continued work to improve the care of the bariatric surgery patient and an extraordinary first eight months of site visits!
