CoC Cancer Liaison Program Mentorship Program

Dear Cancer Liaison Physicians,

Earlier this year, we sent a survey to all Cancer Liaison Physicians (CLP) to assess what new tools and resources we can provide to improve your effectiveness as a CLP in your cancer program. Many of our new CLPs suggested we develop a mentorship program that matches new CLPs with veteran CLPs who can share their experience and provide advice and tips on how to be successful in the role. In order to make this program a success, we want to identify veteran CLPs who are interested in serving as mentors.

Your hard work and dedication to supporting your Commission on Cancer-accredited cancer program and to improving the quality of care for cancer patients is greatly appreciated and we understand your time may be limited.

Therefore, the program as we imagined it would require minimum commitment. We only ask that mentors have at least three email exchanges or phone calls with their assigned mentee during the first six months of their appointment:

  • The first interaction is to introduce yourself and share your experience.
  • The second and third interaction should be follow-ups to see how the mentee is doing and to provide any guidance.

The amount of time dedicated to this effort afterwards would be up to you and your mentee.

If you are interested in being a mentor to a newly appointed CLP please contact Melissa Leeb mleeb@facs.org or Danielle Lopez dlopez@facs.org by Friday December 11.
