American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

From the Directors Desk: Into the World

Traveling the silk road was dangerous, difficult, and compelling. It forever shaped the world and those who travelled it, and their journeys tell the story of human curiosity and the enduring quest for new knowledge (for example, algebra and astronomy), new goods (paper, gunpowder, and spices), and new technology (papermaking and printing). The silk road was also the conduit for the bubonic plague that killed more than 50 million people between 1346 and 1352.

The same drive for expanding our horizons and exposing ourselves to the thoughts of others is as alive and well today as it was centuries ago. We still relish opportunities to get into the world. The good news is that we can share our knowledge, enthusiasm, and diverse ideas without experiencing the hazards of the past. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s American College of Surgeons (ACS) Quality and Safety Conference, originally scheduled for July 24–27, 2020, is going virtual. Using state-of-the-art technology, the event promises great opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange. Visit the Quality and Safety Conference website for more information as it becomes available.
