Revisions to CoC Operative Standards 5.3–5.8 and Updates on Resources

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) will soon be releasing updates to the operative standards (CoC Standards 5.3 through 5.8). The updates are the result of feedback received from staff and surgeons at CoC-accredited cancer programs. The revisions clarify the requirements for compliance, improve consistency among the standards, and update required elements and responses for the standardized synoptic report. The synoptic operative reports being developed by the Cancer Surgery Standards Program (CSSP) will match the synoptic operative report requirements (elements and responses) listed for each standard. All updates will be reflected in a republished version of Optimal Resources for Cancer Care (2020 Standards)in early 2021. Please contact CoC@facs.org with questions about revisions to the Optimal Resources for Cancer Care (2020 Standards).

The article 2020 CoC operative standards: Where are we now?, published this month in the Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons, provides an update on resources and education for the operative standards. For questions about CSSP resources or education, contact cssp@facs.org.
