SurgeonsPAC Cohosts Ninth Annual Specialty Physician and Dentist Candidate Workshop

The American College of Surgeons Professional Association political action committee (ACSPA-SurgeonsPAC) cohosted the ninth annual Specialty Physician and Dentist Candidate Workshop November 30–December 1 at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC. Developed to educate and train physicians and dentists who are interested in running for public office, particularly using the medical community to enhance support across multiple specialties, more than 30 physician and dentist specialty organization representatives were in attendance. Among the workshop participants were a number of ACS Fellows and Resident Members, as well as Representative-elect Kim Schrier, MD (D-WA), whom SurgeonsPAC supported in the 2018 midterm election. In addition to several special guest speakers, the program featured breakout sessions, campaign case studies, and best practices aimed at leveraging health professionals’ commitment to public service at all levels of government.
