Rural Surgeons: Apply for Nizar N. Oweida Scholarship by March 31

Applications for the American College of Surgeons Nizar N. Oweida, MD, FACS, Scholarship are now being accepted. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2020.

This program is open to ACS Associate Fellows and Fellows of the ACS younger than 55 years old who practice in a rural community in the U.S. or Canada. Up to three scholarships of $5,000 each are awarded to subsidize travel to Clinical Congress 2020 or a research/training program appropriate to a rural surgeon.

Applicants must submit an up-to-date curriculum vitae as well as a one- to two-page personal statement that addresses how they will use the scholarship for professional development. The personal statement must include the following:

  • Your rationale and qualifications for applying for the scholarship.
  • Information regarding your practice setting, including your hospital system structure and patient profiles, as well as your participation in quality improvement activities in this setting. You must also indicate career goals and how you plan to transfer acquired learnings to your practice.
  • A well-defined proposal for travel to Clinical Congress 2020 or a well-defined research/training plan to improve your performance as a rural surgeon.

Apply for ACS/AAST International Scholarship by April 15

Applications are now being accepted for the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) International Scholarship. The application deadline is April 15, 2020.

The scholarship provides acute care, trauma, and emergency general surgeons with a stipend of $5,000 to attend the Annual Meeting of the AAST and to visit one or two Level I trauma centers or the Trauma Quality Improvement Program at the ACS headquarters in Chicago.
