American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

RAS E-News: May 2017

Message from the Editor

Welcome to the May edition of RAS E-News. Many of us are interviewing for the next step in our training; many more of us are getting ready to take the next step. Spring in residency brings time for reflection on the past years—how much we have learned, how much we have done, and how much more there is to do. For those who are beginning and those close to finishing, now is the time to get involved; now, when we have the energy that comes with the beginning of summer and the end of another year. Take advantage of the endless opportunities that the Resident and Associate Society (RAS) provides!

Do something of service to others—get involved in medical student engagement through the Membership Committee as well as advocacy needs in the changing health care system through the Advocacy and Issues Committee. Do something in service of your career: apply for the Claude H. Organ, Jr., Traveling Fellowship or an International Relations Committee travel award, or make a podcast for the Communications Committee. Do something fun! Submit Surgical Jeopardy questions to the Education Committee or make funny edits to a video for the Membership Committee.

However you get involved, get involved early and often. We welcome you to join us in all that what we do, but, if you want to try it out before delving into surgical leadership, tune in to one of our weekly conference calls. E-mail for more information.

We look forward to hearing from you!
