Associate Fellows: Serve on a Volunteer Workgroup

Associate Fellows are members of the ACS that are no longer in a training program yet have not attained Fellowship status. We are looking for a group of Associate Fellows interested in volunteering to serve on a workgroup focused to define appropriate programs and resources for Associate Fellows, along with multiple opportunities for networking, engagement, and collaboration. If you are interested, please contact RASNews@facs.org and please write “Associate Fellows” in the subject line. We will hold our next meeting via conference call March 28, at 6:00 pm (CT).

ACS COT Hosts Inaugural Firearm Injury Prevention Summit

Committee on TraumaA total of 43 professional medical and injury prevention organizations and the American Bar Association met February 10–11 for the inaugural Medical Summit on Firearm Injury Prevention. Hosted by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT), the Summit brought together national health care and legal leaders committed to reducing firearm-related deaths, injuries, and disabilities. The purpose of the conference was to foster an inclusive and collegial dialogue on how to work together to identify opportunities for the medical community to reach a consensus-based, apolitical approach to firearm injury prevention, with a focus on understanding and addressing the root causes of firearm violence while making firearm ownership as safe as possible. You can read more about the Summit here.

As a next step, actionable items from the Summit will be compiled by the planning committee and will soon be disseminated to attendees for their organizations' further internal consideration. Proceedings from the Summit will be published and publicly released this spring. View a complete listing of the organizations that attended the Summit.

Browse the ACS Online Video Library

The ACS Online Video Library is the easiest, most innovative, and cost-efficient way to view the entire collection of ACS-selected narrated surgical procedures.

More than 2,000 videos are available in a wide selection of body system and procedure type, and new videos are added each year.

This video library is an excellent teaching resource for residents, as each video is narrated and edited to the particulars of the procedure. Enhance your Grand Rounds by assigning videos for residents to watch beforehand and come prepared to discuss.
