American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Message from the Administrator

As the weather grows warmer and carving watermelons becomes a weekly habit, I am reminded of the many hours Resident and Associate Society of the American College of Surgeons (RAS-ACS) members carve out for the ACS among their many clinical, family, and societal obligations. Thank you! In this month’s issue of Resident Member News, we celebrate RAS-ACS members’ work in the College. Several RAS-ACS members are presenting during this month’s virtual Quality and Safety Conference, RAS-ACS committee liaisons share their work and opportunities for engagement in their bi-annual updates, and we look to you to share words of wisdom for our newest crop of surgical interns and to nominate your favorite FACS surgical mentor. Read on to learn more about our many RAS-ACS volunteers.

Dear Intern Letters Needed by August 1

RAS-ACS is seeking letters from surgeons who fondly, or not so fondly, remember their years in training. Please share some words of wisdom you wish you had had prior to starting surgical training. Here are some suggestions for the format:

  • Write a letter to your former self
  • Develop a top 10 list of best habits or things to avoid
  • Share some words of wisdom through a more experienced, wiser lens

We plan to share your contributions with our newest ACS members in future issues of Resident Member News and archive them on the RAS-ACS web page. Please send your letter to RASnews@facs.org by August 1.
